5 Things I am and am NOT Bringing on My California Adventure

bathroom in a bag for travel

I can’t believe tomorrow the 8-Year-Old and I embark on our California Adventure! This is one of the trips I’ve been talking about forever, and then when it finally arrives I’m in shock I’m actually going — click here if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Of course I’ve procrastinated, so I’m now frantically packing the night before after my CrossFit Competition weekend. As I pulled out my bag and began to work my light packing magic, I made a few decisions about what I will and will not bringing and why.

I will be bringing my backpack, NOT my suitcase. Unless I’m traveling for more than a week I will always choose a backpack over a roller case. I don’t like to be weighed down by my luggage especially when traveling by air — you guys know how I feel about that! Five days warrants a functional bag, not a re-creation of my closet on the road.

I will be bringing my bathroom in a bag, NOT my makeup. This may show my age but I have ZERO interest in makeup anymore especially when I’m traveling with my son. We are exploring the world, not trying to impress anyone. Instead I brought all my essentials in a small bag like toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, comb and deodorant.

I will be bringing a variety of comfy clothes, NOT pajamas. This may be my own quirk, but I can’t stand pajamas taking up room in my bag. I just bring a variety of comfy clothes that I can wear on the plane, lounge around the hotel or sometimes even on short runs. I’m all about multifunction.

I will be bringing my travel wallet, NOT a purse.  Again, my own quirk but I love to travel lean and mean. That means no purse weighing me down. Just a small wallet I can attach to the inside of my bag or on my front jean loop. In it is my ID, credit card, and insurance card. Just the essentials. Oh! and a few business cards in case I strike up a conversation with someone about the blogs.

Small wallet for traveling

I will be bringing my camera, NOT my computer. Only kidding! I have to bring my computer!! Rather, I WANT to. I like to work on the plane, look through our photos at the end of the day and share what I can of our trip in real time.

OMG, I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!

OK, love everything you do Roni, read all your websites. I get what your saying .. I really do.. this is not me being unkind to you at all. I just want to say two words.. tinted moisturizer.. OR bb cream.. these are things that are all in one tube.. they do multiple things and I would love to see you in them only because I think you are pretty and I am a makeup head and I want to reach into the screen and put it on. LOL BB cream has the sunblock .. ect. When I travel.. it's one tube for foundation.. one cream blush.. one lip.. one mascara.. one tiny face wash that is the least amount I can do.. but I GET IT I really do. My least is 5 tiny tubes lol Reply

You and I pack similarly. In fact, when we go on a 4-5 day trip, my husband washes mid-trip. That way we can get away with one bag for the 4 of us! Enjoy your time together... Reply

This is very inspiring to read! Um...because I pack like 4X as much as that, ha ha. But it's cool to see it can be done! Reply

Love that you pack so light...not something I could imagine for myself but I love seeing the different perspective. That's what makes life so interesting...we're all so different. I have been seeing your pictures on Instagram and they are awesome! Thank you for sharing. Oh and finally, totally unrelated but I have always wondered when I see it in pictures - what is your tattoo? Hope you don't mind the question. Reply
