A wonderful night at the Nissley Winery in Bainbridge, Pa.
I know what you are thinking….Bainbridge? It is a small town near Elizabethtown College.
I was first introduced to Nissley about 10 years ago when I first moved to Lancaster,Pa. Lancaster is known for corn and the Amish, but they also have very good wineries….who knew? Almost every Saturday evening during the summer you can go to the winery and enjoy a live concert. Tonight was MOTOWN!I have NEVER been , so in the spirit of my new travel blog, I decided to go with a few of my girlfriends. The husband did not go because he stayed home with the kids.
NO KIDS ALLOWED (this is an over 21 event)
When you first get there it is literally in the middle of nowhere!! You are driving through farms and cornfields. But then you pull in and all you see is rows and rows of grape vine…truly a sight to see!!
The venue is small, the crowds are big, but the atmosphere is romantic. People were there in large groups with tables and food spreads I could not believe!! The folding tables that people brought were decorated with candles, specialty cheeses, and beautiful wine glasses. Since it was our first time, we brought just a blanket.
I wished my husband was with me. But sometimes, you need a girlfriend night!
We spent the evening chatting (gossiping) and drinking wine. I had bought two different bottles. One is the white Ziffandel called Fantasy and then a speciality cherry wine..Delish!!. Both were very good and were emptied.
As it got dark, the candles were lit on the tables and when you stand up, it is a sea of light. The feeling was calm and relaxing.
Next time you come to visit Lancaster County in the summer, go to one of these concerts with your honey!!!! (or friends)
Things to know…..
- bring a candle, chairs, small table ,wine glasses, and snacks
- buy the Nissley wine BEFORE you arrive. The lines are LONG. You can only drink Nissley wine at this event
- NO KIDS….bonus!!!!
- Parking is free. It is in the middle of the woods, so flats or flip-flops are a must.

August 14, 2012I live two miles from Nissley. We own several acres and just wanted to be away from heavily developed areas. I never realized I lived in the middle of NO WHERE!!
