I launched this blog for a myriad of reason one of them being my intense desire to simply travel more.
I want to DO things. SEE things. EXPERIENCE things.
Turning 36 put a bit of fire under my ass much like turning 29 did for my lifestyle. That’s when I had my first child and finally jumped off the yo-yo dieting bandwagon. Now, 7 years later, I’m not only thinner, but healthier and more active than I’ve ever been. I owe a lot of my success to my weight loss blog and the commitment I made to it.
Now I feel as if I’m at another crossroads. I’ve been lucky in life. My hard work has paid off. I own my own business. I’m married to a man I love who works with me on our relationship. I have 2 healthy kids. I own my own house –well, sorta, the bank does, but you know what I mean.
Overall, life is good and I’m grateful, but I’ve never been one to settle. I tend to look towards ‘what’s next.’ A new job? A new house? Back to school? You get the idea.
As I get older I’m trying to appreciate what I have accomplished instead of constantly looking towards that next thing for fulfillment. For me part of that appreciation involves traveling.
You may have noticed form our first few posts here on the UnWorldlyTravelers that traveling encompasses more to me (us) than hopping on plan and landing someplace far away. No, to me travel is a synonym for living life outside of the daily grind. It’s about date nights with the husband, day trips with the kids, and seeing concerts with friends. It’s about exploring my local community as well as getting on that plane to visit some place I’ve never been.
In a nutshell, traveling means consciously looking to experience new things on a regular basis.
And I’m making it a priority.

August 30, 2012This is a fantastic blog, Roni. I can completely relate to everything you said. I am also always looking ahead and trying new things. But now that I am going to turn 40 in 4 months, I am trying to "take time to smell the roses." I also LOVE to travel... I am writing this while in the OBX and my next trip is to FitBloggin ;) I look forward to reading about your "travels" Good luck to you and Jen.

August 30, 2012Great post! It makes me want to explore my areas around me more. Usually I think about my travelling to be the trips outside the country.

August 30, 2012I love this. So well said. My brain's default is to look ahead to the next challenge. It's a glorious moment when I can settle in to just one moment and be very present. Hugs from my son seem to do the best for me. =) I love your take on travel as I share the same ideas. Peace and health.

August 30, 2012Yay! How true Roni....travel can mean simply stepping out your front door. I think its more the mindset of being open to adventure than how many miles away from home you are. We chose to go a bit beyond though. Got rid of the house, got a truck and a camper, and set off to see parts unknown. We just hit our one year anniversary of living the nomadic lifestyle and we still love it! We are hoping to be in Europe next year! I also blog...tho its more for family and friends, but I'd love for you to pop over! Www.travellingawesomes.com Safe travels!
